Catherine Médal has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from the University of North Dakota and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Marymount University. She has been a classroom teacher for 15 years, both in the elementary grades and pre-kindergarten. She has over 35 years experience in Early Childhood Education. She belongs to Zonta Foothills of Boulder, an organization whose mission is to foster the quality of life for women domestically and internationally. She is also a member of the Boulder Evening Optimist Club, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children locally and internationally. Originally from New Orleans, she and her husband and their 3 children moved to Boulder in 1991 from Falls Church, Virginia. Her husband, Lou, of 46 years and their three adult children all live in Boulder. Catherine is proud that Miss Catherine’s, founded in 1995, is a family owned and operated business that is NAEYC accredited!
Donna Pearson, director of the Infant Center, is currently taking classes in Early Childhood Education and will receive her Associate Degree in 2014. She plans on continuing ECE classes to earn a BS Degree. She has been a pediatric medical assistant for 28 years before taking ECE classes in 2010 and obtaining a position in ECE at Miss Catherine’s. She has been married for 27 years and has three beautiful daughters. Her two oldest daughters have obtained Bachelor Degrees, while the youngest is entering high school in 2014. She enjoys time with her family, traveling, reading cooking, gardening, and the outdoors. She has lived in New Jersey and Califronia before moving to Colorado in 2000.
Hasnat Jahan holds a Child Development Associate Certification and an MA in Sociology. She has worked in ECE for 8 years which includes 5 years as a teacher assistant in a Montessori School. She enjoys reading fiction, listening to music, cooking, and sketching. Originally from Bangladesh, she moved to Colorado with her husband and son. To quote her, “I love being with my children."
Jana Nicholson is currently taking classes in Early Childhood Education through Front Range Community College. She has worked in early childhood education for the last 16 years working with Infants through pre-kindergarten age children. She began working at Miss Catherine’s in 2005 mainly working with toddlers and infants. She enjoys camping, reading, playing with her dogs and doing home improvement on her home. She has been married for 10 years to her wonderful husband. The have 2 dogs and 1 cat that they love so much. They bought a home 3 years ago in Firestone and enjoy being homeowners. She is a native of Colorado.
Martha Chavez-Ramirez has taken several ECE courses and is working toward a degree. Having over 25 years of experience, she has worked with children ages 6 weeks-2 years. She enjoys spending time with her family. She has 2 daughters and 2 sons. She is a grandmother to 10 children. The family likes to have cookouts and watch sports games. She is originally from Mexico and is bilingual, which is a benefit to our school. She strongly believes in providing quality care for each child she works with.
Ellen Land has continually taken classes in Early Childhood Education through the Career Development Center of Colorado and Front Range Community College. She is also trained in Montessori education. She has 25 years’ experience in Early Childhood Education. She enjoys sewing, arts and crafts, reading, outdoor activities and watching old movies (pre 1960). She is married and has 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is a Boulder native.
Leta Rodriguez has a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has more than 30 years’ experience in Early Childhood Education. She has been at Miss Catherine’s for 7 years. She enjoys literacy. She has a family farm in Indiana.
Allyson Bowland has a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science with an emphasis in nutrition from the University of Wyoming. She has been the cook and kitchen manager for Miss Catherine’s since 2011. She has been a swimming teacher and enjoys reading, and going to plays in Denver. Her personal quote is that “There is no day but today”. She is a native of Colorado.
Meg Purnell, our break teacher, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has worked with children for 40 years from Infants to school agers. She enjoys riding horses with friends and being out in nature. She owns two horses, Classy and Carmina, who are mother and daughter and loves all animals. She and Classy have participated in the Horse Ballet at the Boulder County Fair. She also enjoys traveling to see new sites. Her quote is: “Our children are our future”.
Kelye Lotz-Andrews is a Musicare instructor who provides a weekly engaging and interactive program for the children at our Learning Center. She holds an MA from McGill University in Montreal, and has been teaching children music for over twenty years. The children always eagerly await Miss Kelye because she provides fun, excitement, songs, musical instruments, puppetry, and stories. She teaches in several schools throughout Boulder County and we have considered her as part of our staff for 9 years. We are happy to have her as part of our Holiday Program and to be included as one of her schools.
Charlene Komp is our visiting nurse. She has 33 years of nursing experience and holds a BS and MS in Nursing. Her studies have emphasized pediatric health care. She is the owner of The Child Health Connection since 1988, a company that provides health services for child care centers. From 2002-2010 she was part of a team of educators that taught a 10 month class promoting health and safety in child care centers. She visits both of our centers each month as a consultant and also provides training to our teachers in medication administration. She has visited Miss Catherine’s for 18 years.
Robin McConell has a BS degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University. She has experience working as a kindergarten teacher, a pre-K teacher, and six years as a toddler teacher. She has also been a Director of a childcare Center. She and her husband, Terry, moved to Colorado in 2009 from Jackson, Michigan. They have four grown children, two sons and two daughter, and now three beautiful grandchildren. They absolutely love living in Colorado and enjoy running, camping, and hiking. Early childhood education has been her life-long passion. “I feel parenting with parents allows me to nurture the children in my care and give them a secure environment in which to flourish and grow”.
Sharon Novak was born and raised in Illinois. She moved out to Colorado in June 2015 with her husband and two boys. She has taken several college courses and is working toward a degree in Early Childhood Education. She has 20 years of experience working with children from infants to preschoolers. She loves to go hiking, shopping, bowling, and watching movies with her family.
Johnna Reyna was born in Colorado and has lived in Longmont most of her life. She has 17 years of experience working in Early Childhood Education with all ages. She has taken several ECE classes and is an Infant Nursery Supervisor and is Medication Certified. She has 2 children and 3 stepchildren, 1 grandson, and a wonderful husband. Family is important to her and enjoys spending time with them. She is a big movie buff and also loves music of all kinds. “I believe all children should have the right to be loved and each and every child has the right to an education ad my heart is and will always be for the children.”
